How can I fix usb ports that quit working?

My usb ports quit working a while back. I have tried several different things to try and fix them. Many things that I didn't even know I could possibly do, being I am only a novice computer person. Nothing has worked. It seems like maybe they might have quit working after I downloaded an upgrade of i-Tunes a while back.

Once your USB ports lose functionality, its not much else you do about it beside replacing them
