RE: how-to-block-a-website.html

RE your webpage how-to-block-a-website.html

I use Firefox and have tried some addons, like Leechblock, but these addons don't block the site from accessing my PC; they load the page but replace it with their page.

So therefore I use the Hosts file method that you explain. However, what do I do to block sites that somehow override this method? (such as livejasmin.com)
Can I replace the 127... number with another one? If so, which one?

Another way to block any website is to use a router: I have a hard-wired one (DLink EBR2310) that works very well. (Routers also give you some protection from bad stuff on the internet.) I add the name of the site and that's it.
One potential problem is that certain websites may be somehow reliant on a website that you block: I found this out today. I was having problems with Hotmail pages loading correctly, and I could not find the cause. (Hotmail is also having problems of its own at the moment.) So I tried unblocking all of the websites I had blocked in the router. And then Hotmail worked properly. I can't figure out why, because none of the blocked websites was obviously related to Hotmail, Windows Live Mail, MSN, etc. The sites I blocked were the usual adware stuff like jasmin.com.
