Startup problem

Sometimes my laptop completely shuts off for no reason and when it tries to turn on again it shows either "disk error press any key to continue" or "operating system cannot be found". I think the laptop has some problem locating the hard drive on startup. About 2/15 the hard drive is found after pressing the power button on and off many times for half an hour.

Any ideas what this may be?

You guys have a great website btw.

That usually happens when you are missing a critical update with Windows. When your computer start ups its check for updates. So, you should update Windows to avoid the problem
