Windows Error Reporting/ Restarting

Good Day, I have a Laptop, Windows 7 64 Bit, a few days ago as I was on internet, the screen went black and then a box appeared stating a Windows Error Reporting/ then it automatically restarts. I see where Windows is attempting to Update yet is unable to do so, Also I.E. is attempting to upgrade to 9, yet is unable to do so.

Any thoughts on what I can do to repair this outside of wiping the drive and starting from the beginning.?
