Windows System Restore not working, Now What!?

Why is system restore not working. There can be reasons for this. But why do you need System Restore in the first place. System restore is a vital tool to help you

Solution 1: Reboot System Restore

File corruption can be reason for system restore not working. You may need to reboot it in order to fix the problem. This can be easily achieved by switching off System Restore, rebooting, and restarting the application. This process however terminates previously existing restore points:

  • Right-click My Computer or Computer in Windows 7 and select Properties or Advanced System Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Choose Configure, then select Turn Off System Restore On All Drives, click OK and then reboot.
  • Open the System Properties tab, uncheck: Turn off System Restore.
    This should reboot the application for you.

Solution 2: Confirm System Restore is Running

  • Open the Run command box and then type services.msc
  • Search the Services, and then click System Restore Services.
  • If the Status of System Restore Service is not Started, Right click and choose Start.

Open a Command Prompt window. To do this, follow these steps: 1.Open the Run command box, type CMD and press Enter.
2.Type Net Start at the command prompt to establish whether the System Restore Service is functioning.

Solution 3: Create More Disk Space for System Restore

To do this, follow these steps:
1.Open the Run command box, type diskmgmt.msc and then press Enter. Make sure the drives system restore is using have more than 50MB free. The ideal is to have more than 200MB free on the drives its monitoring.

Solution 4: Check System Restore for errors

To do this, follow these steps:

  • Click Start, click Run, type eventvwr.msc /s in the Open box, and then press Enter.
  • Click the System category.
  • Click the Source tab to sort by name, and then look for sr or srservice Double-click each of these services, and then evaluate the event description for any indication of the cause of the problem.
